PeterJohnsonLaw is a place where experience, insight and focus matter. A unique combination of legal and business management experience provide clients confidence that their cases are in excellent hands. We work to win.
When you or your business are faced with a criminal investigation, you need someone with experience. Over the the last fifteen years, Peter Johnson has litigated over 500 criminal cases in United States federal courts, including jury trials, bench trials, evidentiary hearings and appeals before federal courts in Maryland, California and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth and Fourth Circuits. He has served as an Assistant Federal Public Defender in Baltimore, Maryland, and a Deputy Federal Public Defender in Los Angeles, California. Peter Johnson has also worked as a litigator in a prestigious Washington, D.C. law firm, handling a variety of high-stakes business and criminal litigation matters. These collective experiences have given him the confidence to work to win on behalf of clients by gaining remarkable results in and out of the courtroom.
For business crime cases or a complex internal investigation, you need a lawyer with an understanding of your business. While attending one of the top international business schools in the world, Peter has developed and nurtured an appreciation for business client’s concerns, challenges, and needs. What’s better, he has built upon that experience and established a reputation for leadership in business management by working as a graduate-level professor of International Corporate Finance, Business Economics, International Business Law and Operations Management.
Every lawyer went to law school, but what distinguishes Peter Johnson’s experience from other lawyers is that, after law school, Peter dedicated two years to watching, learning and working for two high-ranking federal and state judges – the Honorable Robert M. Bell, Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals of Maryland (Maryland’s highest court), and the Honorable Alexander Williams, Jr., United States District Judge. His rationale: if a lawyer is going to hold someone’s future and freedom in their hands, they had better study how the judge thinks, works, and decides cases. Undoubtedly, this experience afforded Peter Johnson the unique opportunity to gain valuable insight into the judicial decision-making process on both the trial and appeal stages. More importantly, it has helped him guide clients through the complexity of the court system with confidence.
Criminal defense is Peter Johnson’s sole area of practice. Why? The cost of losing a criminal case is too high for him to be distracted by any other practice. Don’t take risks representing yourself or hiring those whose legal practice focuses in other areas (e.g., corporate transactional work; tax; real estate; personal injury; and the like) to handle sensitive criminal litigation. Instead, you want to work to win with someone who has experience, insight and focus to advise you how to navigate these difficult times and put your best case forward.
